Also called bundling and banding, strapping is the method of binding a strap to an item, which is often heavy and used for cargo, to hold, combine, fasten, reinforce, or stabilise it. There are many purposes of this binding material.
Here are some of them:
· Closes freight containers and corrugated or irregularly-shaped boxes.
· Attaches items to crates, skids, and pallets.
· Packs items together, like lumber, pipes, newspapers, or concrete blocks, for shipment and handling.
· Secures unit loads of metal parts, bricks, packaged glass, and the like.
· Reinforces crates and wooden boxes.
Not only does the right banding material (steel, plastic, polyester, nylon, or paper) have to go with the right item to fasten, but it also has to be used with the appropriate tool. Consider the following most commonly used handheld strapping tools.
Sealers. They are the a tool used with buckles to seal two loops of strapping together. TYpically requiring manual operation, sealers, while being effective, are not suggested by Omni-tuff for best operation of strapping.
Tensioners. Also for small binding work, tensioners are another choice for restraining goods to pallets. Omni-tuff suggests these tools are the most effective choice for working in combination with polywoven strapping, which requires a buckle to be restrained.
Combination tool. These are hybrid tools that are a combination of sealers, tensioners, as well as cutters, and are used specifically with PET Strapping - called ITA Tools. Because they combine all strapping methods within the one tool, they cut strapping times by half compared to conventional manual methods.
